I can't believe we are already approaching the end of June. I am sure you all have been busy, I know I have. However, even with a busy schedule, I have been reading some great books...you might just want to check one out!!
The Fault in our Stars
If you decided to see the movie The Fault in our Stars before reading the book, I highly suggest taking time to read this awesome story by John Green. I read TFIOS early this spring and immediately fell in love with John Green's writing, here is a brief synopsis:Dying girl meets hot boy. Hot boy and dying girl fall in teenage love. And if you don't yet know the ending, I won't ruin it for you! However this is a MUST READ!!
Looking for Alaska
After reading TFIOS I was eager to read more of Green's writing. Looking for Alaska was next in line on my book list. Want to know a little more about this book? Here you go: Miles Halter has no idea what’s in store for him when he transfers to his father’s old prep school. He certainly doesn’t anticipate rooming with a short, stocky boy nicknamed "The Colonel" who memorizes the capital and populations of all the countries in the world. He definitely doesn’t predict Takumi, the rapper with the fox hat, or Lara, the quiet Russian girl who is his first date. And he never anticipates a girl like Alaska Young coming into his life and changing it forever. This is a fun coming of age novel that includes it all: love, loss and revenge...not necessarily in that order. Great reading for girls or guys. Oh, and in case you didn't notice, it is the book Kara is reading in the photo on the cover of this blog!
In addition to the John Green books I have also started reading a series by Kiera Cass. If you liked the Hunger Games and enjoy watching The Bachelor this is the next must read series for you.
The Selection
For thirty-five girls, the Selection is the chance of a lifetime. The opportunity to escape the life laid out for them since birth. To be swept up in a world of glittering gowns and priceless jewels. To live in a palace and compete for the heart of gorgeous Prince Maxon.
But for America Singer, being Selected is a nightmare. It means turning her back on her secret love with Aspen, who is a caste below her. Leaving her home to enter a fierce competition for a crown she doesn't want. Living in a palace that is constantly threatened by violent rebel attacks. Then America meets Prince Maxon. Gradually, she starts to question all the plans she's made for herself—and realizes that the life she's always dreamed of may not compare to a future she never imagined.
The Elite
Thirty-five girls came to the palace to compete in the Selection. All but six have been sent home. And only one will get to marry Prince Maxon and be crowned princess of Illea.
America still isn’t sure where her heart lies. When she’s with Maxon, she’s swept up in their new and breathless romance, and cannot dream of being with anyone else. But whenever she sees Aspen standing guard around the palace, and is overcome with memories of the life they planned to share. With the group narrowed down to the Elite, the other girls are even more determined to win Maxon over—and time is running out for America to decide. Just when America is sure she’s made her choice, a devastating loss makes her question everything again. And while she’s struggling to imagine her future, the violent rebels that are determined to overthrow the monarchy are growing stronger and their plans could destroy her chance at any kind of happy ending.
The One
THE SELECTION changed the lives of thirty-five girls forever. Now, only one will claim Prince Maxon’s heart… It’s swoon meets the Hunger Games in the final instalment of THE SELECTION trilogy!
For the four girls who remain at the palace, the friendships they’ve formed, rivalries they’ve struggled with and dangers they’ve faced have bound them to each other for the rest of their lives. Now, the time has come for one winner to be chosen. America never dreamed she would find herself anywhere close to the crown – or to Prince Maxon’s heart. But as the competition approaches its end and the threats outside the palace walls grow more vicious, America realizes just how much she stands to lose – and how hard she’ll have to fight for the future she wants.
I have also just found out there are prequels to the series. Next up on my reading list: The Guard and The Prince. The Queen will have to wait as it won't be released until December! I hope you grab on to this series and love it as much as I do!
Our online library through ESU2 has the John Green books as well as The Selection, The Elite, and The Guard, but I plan on having copies of these books in our library this fall as well! Enjoy the rest of your summer!
